22/06/2016 » Axiom Entertains at Leicester's Riverside Festival

22/06/2016

A Proel Axiom AX2010 line array loudspeaker system was in use for the Leicester Riverside Festival held over the weekend of June 4th, supplied by leading audio visual equipment company Leicester Sound and Lighting.

The popular festival presents a lively weekend of activities for the whole family spread across Bede Park, Mile Straight, Western Boulevard and Castle Gardens, and offers boat trips, a variety of food stalls from around the world, displays and of course an exciting programme of live music throughout the weekend. The Main Stage saw a line up of local artists including The Moderators, Most Ugly Child, OBS winners, James Cull, Jessie Wright, Tim Baker, Gateway College Showcase, The Drugstore Cowboys, Sing For Water, and DMU Music Collective entertain the crowds on Saturday and Sunday.

The PA for the main stage consisted of two per side Axiom AX2010A dual 10-inch powered line array elements flown on work lifts with SW218A powered dual 18-inch subwoofers on the floor. According to LSL director David Morrison, the set up process couldn't have been easier with the speaker system rigged, connected, and sound checked in less than an hour, even though the mains supply only amounted to a 32A feed rather than the usually expected 64A. "The Axiom system worked very happily on the 32A supply, with absolutely no issues – it has proved to be more efficient electrically than we had expected. With the line array angled down from around five metres we got plenty of sound pressure level and excellent coverage of the audience area. Sound quality was spot on and the bottom end was very good, much appreciated by ska band The Moderators. We had many positive comments from bands and the audience, and particularly from the choir who performed on Sunday, Sing For Water – they said it was the best sound they had ever heard.

"When you've had a PA for a while you get a little complacent because you've exhausted all its possibilities as was the case with our old system, so it's good to try out different things with this new Axiom PA and try to find its limits – so far we haven't found any. On the strength of this weekend we've quoted for several new jobs, and we were actually approached by a client who regretted they hadn't booked us after hearing the quality of the PA.
